Celebrate Chinese New Year in style at Hutong!

Lo Hei or 'Toss Up' Salad - on the menu from 30th January until 14th February

We are greatly looking forward to celebrating our first Chinese New Year at Hutong, and have some exciting activities planned to make it a very special occasion.

Until February 14th – the end of Chinese New Year – four specially-created cocktails ‘Fortune’, ‘Happiness’, ‘Wealth’ and ‘Longevity’ will be available in the Shanghai Bar, using ingredients which are believed to bring or denote these four themes of celebration.

On Wednesday 29th January, we will be ‘cleaning the restaurant’ in preparation for the New Year. On this day, it is traditional to give gifts of rice to extended family, so we will be giving a complimentary rice dish to all tables recognising that our guests are our extended family!

Thursday 30th January is ‘New Year’s Eve’, when families host a special reunion meal to celebrate together and bring luck for the year ahead. We will be serving a special Reunion Dinner menu alongside the a la carte menu, perfect for families and groups to share.

The celebrations will culminate on Friday 31st January with traditional lion dancers welcoming guests at the street-level entrance to The Shard, as well as Chinese musicians and an origami artist in the restaurant. A special set menu priced at £88 – 8 being a highly auspicious number – and named ‘Double Happiness’, will feature the customary ‘Lo Hei’ or ‘Toss-up’ salad, which consists of a mixture of raw seafood including salmon, yellow tail and shredded abalone. This delicious and unusual dish will then feature on the menu as a special until 14th February.

In taking many of the traditions associated with Chinese New Year and giving them a modern but respectful twist, we believe that Hutong will be the place to celebrate Chinese New Year in 2014! For more information and to book please visit http://hutong.squarespace.com/reservations
