The pleasure of new cocktails

Posted on June 26, 2014

A cocktail in our Shanghai Bar, whether before or after dining or as an indulgence on its own, has always been one of the pleasures of visiting Hutong. Now, to mark our first anniversary of opening, we hope to further enhance the pleasure with an all-new cocktail list and the introduction of dim sum service in the bar.

‘Bing Cha’ means ‘iced tea’ in Chinese but here it’s the name of a new selection of artfully-created punches which blend traditional Chinese teas with fruits, medicinal elements and a variety of spirits. Served like tea in a pot ‘steaming’ with dry ice, the presentation is as much a feature as the taste! Bing cha cocktails include Fujian Breeze based on gin and Silver Tip tea and Moli Hua, Ketel One vodka with jasmine tea and elderflower syrup.

Elsewhere on the new list are the Jade Emperor, a reviving sour-style cocktail which blends Kamm & Sons ginseng spirit with Midori, lemon juice and Chinese five-spice tincture, finished with egg white, and the long, refreshing Shanghai Vines – kaffir lime-infused tequila and Vidal Eiswein sweet wine, with peach and cardamom bitters and the tang of lime juice and kumquat.

We’re also pleased to announce that due to very popular demand, it’s now possible to order a selection of dim sum dishes in the bar to accompany your cocktails, from 1pm until 5pm. Crispy Peking duck rolls and Steamed rosĂ© Champagne shrimp dumplings are just two of the delicate delights available and are the perfect partner for Bing Cha!

The Shanghai Bar at Hutong is open all day from 12 noon until midnight, no reservations are needed or taken and the bar is open to non-diners.
