Lighting in the spotlight
Posted on October 3, 2014
Since opening we have been honoured to receive a number of awards for our cuisine and overall experience, but we were delighted to win an award for our design, specifically our lighting, at the prestigious Restaurant & Bar Design Awards recently.
Nominated in the UK & International category, the award was given to our founder and creative director David Yeo and Into Lighting, the lighting design consultancy with which David partnered to create Hutong’s complex lighting scheme.
Intended to adapt seamlessly from daytime, through dusk and into night, our lighting involved as much thought from David and the Into team as the menu and interior design. By day, while much of the light comes from our floor-to-ceiling windows, subtle beams draw the eye to interior details such as our ‘tea wall’ and the Goddess of Mercy who watches over the bar.
At night, spotlights pick out the red lanterns which decorate every table and light the way through the dining rooms, while glare is cleverly minimised to ensure that guests can enjoy our panoramic views of London to the full.
Thank you very much to the judges of the Restaurant & Bar Design Awards; we were delighted to even be nominated for such a prestigious prize, but to have won has us beaming!
