Surrey Square School’s pop-up restaurant impresses!

Since our pop-up presence at fundraising event Magic Feast there last year, we’ve kept in touch with the friends we made at nearby Surrey Square School and always love hearing about their latest plans and projects. We were delighted to be invited this week to see one of their latest projects come to fruition – a pop-up restaurant of their own!

As part of the school’s ‘Night At The Museum’ event, which saw the whole school transformed into a museum, Year 5 took on the challenge of researching, developing and producing a restaurant for the night.

Choosing as their theme Ancient Greece, Year 5 painstakingly planned menus, entertainment and design, each assigned to teams tasked with ensuring that guests had an unforgettable ‘Ancient Greek Experience’. A few days before the event, the whole year had the opportunity to grill a panel of restaurant industry experts including a restaurateur, a critic and our very own communications manager, and asked many very pertinent questions.

Year 5 clearly paid close attention to the panel, because the finished product on the night was very impressive! Guests were warmly welcomed, offered drinks and seated comfortably for the entertainment – from Year 5′s talented musicians – before tray after tray of authentic Ancient Greek delicacies were served including stuffed peppers, flatbreads and poached squid, and sweet treats of oranges and bread drizzled with honey and cinnamon.

Running a restaurant is never easy but Year 5 at Surrey Square School made it look almost effortless. We hope that the children, their parents and teachers are all very proud of their achievement – we are certainly very proud of them for delivering an excellent Ancient Greek Experience!
